FPV UK membership now includes commercial cover in compliance with EC785/2004

We have some great news to share – FPV UK membership now includes EC785/2004 compliant commercial drone insurance.

Why is EC 785/2004 relevant?
EC 785/2004 is a regulation introduced after 9/11, long before drones existed. It was written for commercial airlines and sets out insurance requirements including terrorism, hijack, unlawful seizure, civil commotion, acts of war and public liability. This regulation also applies to drones.

Our insurance now includes cover that complies with all of the requirements of EC 785/2004.

What this means for you

In addition to £5 million of public liability insurance for non-commercial flying, FPV UK members are now also covered by £1 million of commercial public liability insurance. This allows you to carry out up to £15,000 of commercial drone work per year, either:

  • as a sole trader, invoicing customers in your own name; or
  • through a one-person limited company with one director and one shareholder.

Only income from commercial drone flying counts towards the £15,000 annual limit. Income from other work or business activities is not counted.
